Focus Group of the Climate Adaptation Lab

On November 12th, we took part in the 1st Focus Group of the Climate Adaptation Lab, held at the headquarters of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

This initiative is part of the European project SMARTER – Systemic Transformation Towards Local and Regional Climate Resilience, founded by the European Union (Horizon Programme) and promoted by the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH).

The Climate Adaptation Lab will focus on a representative estuary area of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, covering the City Councils of Vila Franca de Xira and Loures (north bank) and Almada and Seixal (south bank). This area will serve as a demonstration for nature-based solutions, with a focus on urban riverfronts, creating opportunities for replication and expansion across the remaining 14 City Councils of the metropolitan area. The collaboration between AML, NOVA FCSH, and the partner entities involved in the lab will focus on identifying climate risk priorities, sharing methodologies, and co-developing adaptation strategies, with the aim of promoting resilience in estuary ecosystems.
