On 20 January, all Year 8 classes attended a talk delivered by the NGO Onewater in the library of Escola Básica Padre José Rota.
The lecture aimed to introduce the organisation and its mission; to encourage reflection on the main issues affecting the oceans, namely marine pollution, plastic waste and climate change; to promote awareness of both individual and collective responsibility in protecting water resources; and to present the Letters to the Sea challenge, explaining its objectives and fostering environmental awareness.
On 28 January, the Letters to the Sea challenge was officially launched to primary students, from 4th grade, as well as to all students from middle, lower secondary and secondary education. This initiative will help to develop written expression and critical thinking through the creation of messages, letters and drawings addressed to the sea by expressing their connection with it, their concerns and hopes for the future of the sea and our planet.
